Finding the right educational psychologist
Educational psychologists (EPs) are the professionals most parents encounter first when their child is struggling at school. They assess how children learn, identify barriers to progress, and recommend practical strategies that schools and families can put in place. What they do
An EP will carry out a detailed cognitive and learning assessment — usually involving standardised tests, observation, and conversation with your child. A full assessment typically takes 3 to 4 hours, sometimes split across two sessions. Your child will work through a series of activities and puzzles — most children find them quite engaging. You'll usually receive a written report within 2 to 3 weeks, followed by a feedback meeting to discuss the findings and next steps.
